Bountiful WiFi BWRG-500 Review.
Bountiful WiFi Router: BWRG-500 Wireless-G Router
The Folks over at Bountiful were kind enough to send us one of their BWRG-500 wireless-g routers for testing and we were pleased to see some of the upgrades and changes made to the router. One of the first things we noticed was the noise level, or rather lack thereof. The router is incredibly quiet, a significant improvement over the last model we tested.
The router itself looks like a typical router: an adjustable antennae coming out of the rear, a wired WAN port for incoming connection, four wired LAN ports for outgoing connections, a reset button, the power connection, and of course various signal light indicators on the front.
Installation was relatively simple, in fact for those who are already familiar with setting up a small network; instructions are probably not needed, as the router is ready to go, right out of the box. However for this review we did read the instructions to gain a sense of what a new user might feel. The instructions are still a little thick with technical jargon, but they have improved. As long as they are followed precisely, the average user will be able to set up this router with little to no problems. However, one thing we noticed was our instructions requested two antennas are connected when we only received one in the package and only saw space for one on the router.
The configuration is not unlike a standard router, with one exception: the Bountiful router definitely has more options for configuring to maximize the control each person has over their settings and security. One of our favorite options was allowing for multiple WiFi SSIDs with various usernames, passwords and abilities. We did notice the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) capability does not exist, meaning some of the devices we use were not compatible with the Bountiful router.
The range itself was still phenomenal; we compared it side by side to our existing router and found the Bountiful WiFi router was accessible from a much greater distance than our current Wireless-N router. Albeit, the wireless-n router we have deployed is a pre-certification model.
This router is definitely a cut above the rest for many reasons with the most prominent one being the range. For a small business or larger house, this router is a must-have piece of equipment.
