Q - Where is municipal wi-fi available?

A - In global terms there are not many wifi enabled cities/municipal networks fully operational. However, there are a few which have either announced plans to go operational in the next 6-24 months or have plans to get a network installed in the near future. Since posting this thread, we discovered a previous article offered at howstuffworks.com. The researcher has an excellent list of currently deployed or deploying services and much more.

- Some updates to the muni-networks offered below were obtained from Muniwireless.com -
- Some updates are added after researching current news articles and/or contacting communities considering a municipal wireless Internet network.

We refer to (RFP) for some locations. As mentioned above, the acronym is for a Request for Proposal. In some cases the city/area may be beyond the RFP but not yet deployed. In other cases cities may be doing a feasibility study for a wireless mesh network - WiFi mesh and/or WiMax-based.

If you know of a RFP or live in an area not listed above which has or is planning a wireless network (city-wide, county-wide, state-wide) please contact us so we can make the appropriate updates.
